As the Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Minister Baird was given a special tour of Beechwood Cemetery.
 
Mr. Baird wa pleased to join His Excellency Lan Lijun, the Ambassador of China to Canada, in raising the Olympic Flag at Ottawa City Hall in honour of the commencement of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
 
Minister Baird and Salty; a rescued Barn Owl who was hit by a salt truck near Mahone Bay this past winter. Minister Baird was in Nova Scotia with the Nature Conservancy of Canada to announce the land acquisition of Deep Cove. (Salty the Owl is making a full and speedy recovery).
 
Minister Baird, along with internationally acclaimed Ottawa singer, Morgie, at the opening of the Caribbean Expo '08 at Ottawa City Hall.
 
 
As Canada's Environment Minister, John Baird was pleased to congratulate the newest graduates of Environment Canada's Environmental enforcement Officers at Algonquin College. Mr. Gordon Moore, a resident of Ottawa West Nepean, was one of this year's graduating officers.
 
John Baird hosted an awareness booth for local parents at Bayshore Shopping Centre about common household chemical Bisphenol A (BPA). Canada is the first country in the world to take action to declare BPA toxic.
 
  
HAPPY CANADA DAY, OTTAWA WEST-NEPEAN! John Baird served breakfast to local seniors at the annual breakfast, held at the Aberdeen Pavillion.
 
John Baird was pleased to host Lakeview Public School Grade 5's on their special end of the year field trip. As always, the outdoor cat sanctuary, located to the west of Centre Block, was a big hit with the students.
 
As a life-long resident of Nepean, John Baird was pleased to take part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for 27 newly renovated housing units at Silver Springs Farm. The Government of Canada was pleased to contribute over $500,000 to this worthwhile community project.
 
 
John Baird delivered a congratulatory address at the Queensway Carleton Hospital's Annual General Meeting in support of the hospitals 'greening initiatives.' As a cornerstone of Nepean, the Queensway Carleton Hospital continues to provide state-of-the-art care to patients, while demonstrating leadership for our environment in our community.
 
 
As the Minister responsible for Parks Canada, John Baird was pleased to announce the grand opening of the Rideau Canal for the season, as well as increased security measures along the canal, including video surveillance, to ensure that all citizens and tourists enjoy a safe and pleasurable boating experience.
 
 
John Baird was pleased to help Telus in their annual Clean-Up the Community event, which was held at Andrew Haydon Park. Rainy skies did not stop about 100 local residents from helping with the clean-up.
 
 
John Baird, and fellow local Member of Parliament, Royal Galipeau, were pleased to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the World Partnership Walk, which raises money to support international anti-poverty groups.
 
 
John Baird was pleased to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Nepean Museum at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party.

The Minister visited other schools around the riding and brought baby saplings to classes who are presently learning about environmental issues, such as recycling, etc. As you can see from the picture, Ms. Melissa Langois' Gr. 4 French Immersion class at D. Roy Kennedy all wore red to show support for Canadian troops for the Minister's visit.
